    Default File gone missing

We have two base files that keep disappearing. This happens in broad daylight, even when people are working in them. No midnight burglars here.

You'll be in the file one moment, try to save and it will give a "can not save message - save to temp". Then when you look in the original folder its gone. This also happens when no-one has opened the file. You'll be using a file that xref's the original and all of a sudden the xref will be gone and when you go to repath it, the file is missing.

We've been pretty good about saving our work often. So we haven't lost much data. We still have the backup files in the folder. So we've always been able to restore to that point. But its a little disconcerting when your project vanishes. Anyone ever hear of this happening before? Any help would be appreciated.

Our office uses AutoCAD LT 2006

    Thanks

This happens only with CAD files???

Check out that your anti-virus and firewall is working OK, it might be related with security problems.

    Default more info...

Possibly something similar has happen to a vectorworks file once upon a time, but not the problem it is with our CAD files. It is only two files that we know of. They are the plan bases for two buildings we have been working on at the same time. These files are stored on our server.

Sorry for my lack of computer knowledge, but what's a disk sector and how do I find out if its a bad one.

Well, he means that maybe your Hard Disk could be damaged. You can check it out with software like scandisk .

It's very strange , what kind of server do you have? something like Windows Sever, Unix, Linux, Netware in which you have to log in or it's just other computer which has all the files centralized?

    Review the security and permissions.

That sounds dangerously like a server problem to me. We've had similar issues just prior to server crashes, so it may be in your best interest to backup all of your important files A.S.A.P. and have your IT department run a check on the server.

The only other possibility I can think of is that your drawings are corrupted on the server somehow, which might be fixed if you save the drawing to your c:\ drive and work on it from there.
