bjenk8100
Hello, I made a gear and a chain link. I wanna have the chain links go around the gear. I found a method that works but it just takes so long inserting individual chain link components into an assembly and mating each individual ones together. Can someone take a look at my assembly and see if they can think of a quicker way. I am thinking some sort of circular pattern. I am working on that now but it is not easy. Thanks Assem1 - Gear and Chain Links.SLDASM
JD Mather
An assembly must have parts.
bjenk8100
Huh, I wonder why the file saved as a solidworks 2013 application (file type) instead of a prt. (file type). I don't ever remember that happening before.
JD Mather
I have no idea what you are talking about? application file? What is that? Where is that? You attached an assembly file *.sldasm. In the real world - an assembly must have parts to be of any value. A car assembly with no parts isn't much of a car? A SolidWorks assembly file is nothing more than a list of hyperlinks to the parts that go into the assembly and instructions on how to put them together - a list of assembly constraints. Put all of the files in one folder. What is the size of the folder? Add up all the part file (*.sldprt) files - what is the total size? Compare this total to the size of the assembly file. What is the difference?
bjenk8100
I started a new part as a gear. I started a new part as a gear. They are not normal part file extensions in folder. The assembly is a normal file extension. When I get home I'll delete assembly file and I gaurantee they will turn back into part files.
