Hippe013 Posted April 16, 2014 Share Posted April 16, 2014 Hello everyone! I am hoping to get some help in solving a volume problem. I have a polyline representing the bottom of a dirt pile. I know the volume that I am trying to achieve. I know the initial area (the area of the polyline being the bottom of the pile). I know the side slopes of the pile that I would like to create. Let's say a 4:1 side slope. (offset the polyline inward 4 feet and lift it up one). I am wondering how I would achive the desired pile given these knowns. What I don't know is the height of the pile, or the final area of the top of the pile. Any help in solving this problem is much appreciated! In the end, my hope is to write a lisp to select the polyline, enter the volume, enter the side slope(4:1 or 3:1 or 2:1....) and it will create the rest of the polylines. regards, Hippe013 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Also do you need a minimum width at the top, say for a hauling road or it is dumped by a conveyor ? As you go up your polyline shrink all around by the slope and you get to a point of zero width. As for the top it would be on a plane parallel to its base. It would also (I suppose) have some sort minimum area. Since given an area of a base and a certain slope to maintain there be times when you couldn't fit the volume under those constraints. The purpose is to achieve the desired volume with the given base and slope and return the height of the top from the base. (let say a dirt stockpile for example) It would as if you offset a polyline inward 4 feet and just raised up 1 foot to achieve a 4:1 slope and repeated that until you achieved your volume. regards, Hippe013 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

BIGAL Posted April 17, 2014 Share Posted April 17, 2014 This was a typical math question using iteration you dont need autocad you just need a smart child who is in his/her seniors years at school, sorry mine are grown up and I would spend forever remembering how to do that.
