Nut Head in 3d

Recommended Posts

I am new to Autocad 3d and trying to draw a Nut Head. I am trying to use the subtract tool but get the following message:-

2 selected surfaces were ignored. Surfaces cannot be subtracted from solids or regions.

At least two solids, surfaces, or coplanar regions must be selected.

When I setup the 6 sided polygon I used ucsicon and selected norigin. What am I doing wrong?

It looks like you have constructed your nut head using a combination of surfaces and solids. I would expect you to be creating the nut head using all solids.

Attach a copy of the nut head drawing to your next post. Someone here will take a look at it.

You might want to check out pages 6-10 of this tutorial by forum member JD Mather too.

Just like I said/thought; you used a combination of surfaces and a solid. Follow JDM's advice in the tutorial I provided a link to previously.

Step 13 should read 45° or -45° depending on the orientation of your UCS - the key is to create an expanding cone in the correct direction.

13. Extrude*the*larger*circle*that*is*tangent*to*the*hexagon*with*a*taper*of*45°*(or*-45°)*

beyond*the*length*of*the*nut.

Other options would be to Revolve a closed Triangle and cut or intersect

or Revolve an open line profile as a surface body and Slice with Surface option.

So many ways....
