mosegrodd
Hi, I can not open this drawing that I just saved. At first it opened an empty drawing with the name "Drawing1", and now it will not open at all. When I look at the file info it says the file is 4.1 MB. I can't manage to attach the file here. Please help!!
Dadgad
Welcome to CADTutor. Are you trying to create a custom template? My guess is that you have used the QNEW command, in an attempt to open your previous drawing, which won't do it, based on the information that it was called Drawing 1, which would be the default name for a new document. If you are trying to open a recent drawing, click on the large A in the upper left corner, then select recent documents. If your file size is 4.1 MB, it is not empty. How are you trying to open it? Have you tried ZOOM EXTENTS and or REGEN?
mosegrodd
Thank you so much for answering. I am opening it as I normally do by double-clicking on the file name in Finder. I´ve tried all methods I know, including "open with" in finder, and "open recent" in auto cad. Also I have tried "open file" in auto cad. I have tried to zoom out, but there was noting. Right now I can´t even open the file. When I double-click on it, it flashes/looks like it´s about to open for a brief second, but suddenly shuts down. I can open all my other files, but there´s something wrong with this one. While working on the drawing I kept getting a message about "unsupported objects" as on the picture I´ve uploaded. If that is of any useful information.
Dadgad
Given that there seem to be close to a half million of them, I might consider the DO NOT SHOW unsupported objects option. Do you know what software was used to create the original document? Edited May 16, 2014 by Dadgad
Dadgad
Try using the RECOVER option in Drawing Utilities, on the FILE dropdown menu, up in your left hand corner on the MENU BAR. Select RECOVER, then browse to the file which is giving you the problem, and select it. If you succeed in RECOVERING your file I suggest you run the -purge command (include the hyphen) on it also. First select Regapps at the commandline, and hit ENTER, then select ALL and hit ENTER again. Run AUDIT after that, and choose to let Autocad fix any errors. mosegrodd
I cannot express my gratitude, IT WORKED! Entering "recover" in the command line in any other drawing and I could choose any file from Finder. Thank you so much. This saved my architecture exam. Dadgad
Very happy to have been of assistance, and hear that you are back on the tracks. Did you also run the -PURGE command, as described in my previous post? Followed by the AUDIT command, also can't hurt? If you run the -PURGE command (not the regular Purge, but the commandline -PURGE), you will see a report at the commandline detailing that it deleted 200,000 linetypes, or any other entities or virtual flotsam that were bloating your drawing that were remedied. Was this created with Autocad Vanilla, or Autocad Architecture perhaps? Your profile says you are using Autocad Vanilla 2014, is that correct? RobDraw
As an aside, I always suggest that you open files from the program that you want them opened in, which, from your post, seems like your last resort. It really should be your preferred way of opening drawings or any other file for that matter.

ReMark
Did you try running an AUDIT on the drawing as previously suggested above by Dadgad? Any chance this drawing contains entities (ex. - linetypes) created originally in Microstation?
SLW210
In looking at the image in post #3, the AcDGNLS would appear to indeed be associated with DGN Linetypes perhaps. Hotfix for AutoCAD 2012 Hotfix for AutoCAD 2013-
