Something came up to the surface of my memory from the time I spent working with AutoCAD. I had been doing some maintenance on my machine which included a registry check and repair. This appears to have some strange effect on Autodesk products, and they do funny things after that. Solving the problem involves going to Control Panel -> Uninstall -> Repair. Autodesk fixes itself.
