Default scaling in "architectural" & "decimal"

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

hey guys i'm using CAD 2004 and i'm having a problem with my scaling. example...i put together some details that were drawn 1:1 in architectual units (ie. 3'-4"), now in paper space through a viewport the company wants the scale's to be decimal (ie 1:10, 1:20)...so what would be the proper procedure to make this work? scale the drawings down 1/12?

    thanks in advance

You should never scale your drawing in model space. There is absolutely no reason to do this. Go to your Layout and double click inside of the viewport to activate model space or type MS at the command prompt. Now position your detail inside the viewport border and zoom in until the detail fills the viewport. Now double click outside the viewport to get back to paper space or type PS at the command prompt. To set the viewport scale, single click on the viewport border and then right click and select properties. The Properties palette will now open. In the "Misc" section, go to "Standard Scale". You can set the scale to 1:10 or 1:20 or whatever you need. Once you get the scale set, move to the next option up, "Display Locked" and change that to yes.

single click on the vport object..then in the properties there will be a "standard scale" to choose from...if not then perhaps there was a pline that created a border arround the viewport and you may be selecting that...

in any event a 1:10 is simply a zoom ratio (which so happens to work nicely with the metric system) so even if you have drawn in inches using 1:10 will be the same as 1:10 metric (although this gets trick if you draw in meters etc)...

also, instead of using the predefined scale you can speficy your own while in the viewport itself by using the zoom command...if you need 1:10 the zoom>scale>1/10xp where xp means times paperspace--assuming of course your paper space is a title block that is 1:1...

imperial scaling such as 1/4":1'-0" is actually 1:48 so zoom>scale>1/48xp will be the same (the math is 1/4" = 12" therefore 1"=48")...

also there is a viewports toolbar with a dropdown that will let you select from pre-defined scales...
