I am a firefighter new to the AutoCad world but have extensive knowledge in the GIS world. I am trying to create map pages similar to the one attached. I have never used AutoCad but use ArcGIS alot. I have downloaded AutoDesk and have no idea where to start. Any suggestions? Is it possible or difficult?

Are you wanting to use GIS data to generate the plans in AutoCAD, or are you simply wanting to create the plans manually? I'm not familiar with GIS data, but many others on this forum are experienced in this realm and should be able to help you if you're in fact trying to use GIS data with AutoCAD.

To answer your question directly, AutoCAD can certainly recreate the PDF map you've uploaded with ease.

Screenshot 2014-07-11 09.37.21.jpgI would like to use GIS data to create a map with similar data elements. Attached is a map I created in ArcGIS but you can see the differences between mine and the above link.

Welcome to CADTutor. :)

The short answer is "yes"... To a point.

To fully embed, and manipulate GIS (aka Object Data [ODATA]), you'd need to use Map 3D, or Civil 3D (which is built on top of Map 3D).

As BlackBox stated, Autocad Map3D can do it once you learn the basics, with a ESRI background you should be able to pick it up easy. :)

3rd yes, Map or Civ3D you can do a direct connection to a Esri database like Arcgis which is what we have, it is possible to write export to Autocad from Esri also, unfortunately that is held by the IT corporate level not my level. You end up with autocad dwgs though not smart maps.
