    Default teeth of spur gear

    Thanks for the reply ,I'm still waiting for someone to give me pointers how to make just a teeth of the gear with all the values( such as pitch dia,base circle etc.) I 'll study your helical gear once again thankyou!!!

    How i done this at college is to draw a circle to your required diameter of the gear and at the top of the circle draw just one tooth. If you zoom into the top of the circle and draw one tooth with all the required dimensions etc...

    Now using the POLAR ARRAY command enter the amount of teeth required and array with the centre point of the circle. You can also set the required distance between each tooth.

    Hi Craigp, I need to draw a teeth of a spur gear alone I just want to learn to get the exact way to draw a teeth. I know how to array it.Thanks for replied.

    I's kinda involved.
    What you have to have:
    number of teeth
    pitch diameter
    major & minor diameters of spline
    pressure angle
    top and base fillets of tooth
    If external teeth:
    tooth width
    If internal teeth:
    space width

    Place the following objects on different layers with different colors so it won't be quite so confusing.
    1. draw pitch diameter
    2. draw major & minor diameters concentric to pitch diameter
    3. draw verticle line from major od north quadrant, toward center
    an inch or so past minor od (length not important)
    4. offset the verticle line 1/2 the space width if internally splined
    or tooth thickness if externally splined.
    5. draw a horzontal line from north quadrant of pitch diameter to the
    right, 3 or four inches (length not important)
    6. rotate/copy this line from quadrant, clock wise, the value of
    pressure angle.
    7. create base diameter by drawing circle from center to
    perpendicular of lower leg of line you copy/rotated.
    8. if bottom leg of copy/rotated line is not long enough to reach the
    base diameter, then extend line to the base diameter circle.
    9. draw a radius circle, center point at intersection of base circle and
    lower leg to the intersection of the verticle line and pitch
    diameter.
    10. trim this circle using the major and minor diameters of spline
    keeping the portion that falls between these 2 diameters.
    this is one side of the tooth.
    11. fillet this arc at both ends.
    12. mirror this arc w/fillets using the end points of the first verticle
    line.
    13. trim out what you don't need.
    14. you now have a tooth with a partial circle still attached to the
    fillets.
    15. array the tooth around the pitch diameter.
    16. trim the partial circle that's still attached to the fillets on one
    tooth only.
    17. erase remainder of partial circle.
    18. array the trimed out portion of the circle the same number of
    times as teeth.
    19. pe edit join all entities.
    20. done!!!
