Newbie. TTR will not snap properly

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I'm learning CAD and using Draftsight V1R5.2

The drawing is a tutorial drawing I found on a website.

I have copied the drawing to a new .dwg and it still will not snap.

The problem area is where the red pointer is.

What the heck is going on here???

Thanks a bunch.

Did you try using an "intersection" snap point? It should work.

I opened your drawing in AutoCAD and I was able to snap to that point using "intersection". I can't test it in Draftsight at the moment because it is loaded on my laptop and not on my CAD computer which I am currently on.

Thanks for the help.

Here are the steps I just took.

-Click draw circle

-Type t

-clicked snap to intersection

-clicked lower left tangent

-clicked snap to intersection

-clicked right tangent

-typed 1.75

-enter

Still got the same space on the right side.

The right portion will not join at the tangent.

Use the Circle command with the Tan-Tan-Radius option. No snapping required.

OK. Tried it in Draftsight and Circle with the Ttr option works like a charm after which you can snap to the intersection of the two circles.

That is what I'm doing.

It's not snapping on the right side tangent.

When you did it in draftsight, is the right side touching that object?

Can you trim the top of the circle?

Yes, it is and yes, I can.

And it is repeatable; I've done it three times in a row. No problem here.

OK...I was able to reproduce your results on the fourth try. What did I do differently? I snapped to the endpoint of the arc that is at the end of the horizontal line that you should be snapping to. That, in essence, pulls the larger circle (r=1.75) away from and to the left of the smaller circle thus eliminating the intersection.

Your approach was almost correct but not quite. Change it and your results should change as well.

Ok.

I see what I was doing wrong.

When I was trying to trim, I was clicking an object that wasn't touching the 1.75 circle. DUH!

As an aside,

When zoomed all the way in on the right tangent, why isn't it touching?

The bottom side tangent is touching.

Also,

Thanks for the help
