How to delete unused block

It's fantastic to see your result. How are you doing ? I already tried to "wblock + purge". But it does not take any effect. I see your drawings the unsed block already removed. Did you just write block entire drawing?

In this case I did indeed Write Block the entire drawing.

My other two suggestions also worked well. I tried all three fixes independently.

Your problem I think (As others have suggested) is that complex linetypes have been imported from Microstation.

The mystery is why you can't fix the drawing yourself.

I think you should upload the missing shape files so we get a true picture.

I ran the -PURGE command on the original drawing and deleted 500 Regapps! I then WBlocked out the drawing and saved it under a different name. This one simple step reduced the file size from 5.73MB to 127KB.

Yeah, the conversion using TrueView that Manila did, probably got rid of the Regapps too.

Could you show the guideline and and the result. I do the same way with you. But I do not see unused block has been removed.

Your result is very good. But the problem is that we do not use cad trueview and we also do not use microstation to import object. So we all use CAD platform in our drawings. So I think there is a way to solve it by cad program.

You do not need Dwg Trueview as you are using AutoCAD 2014. I need it because I am using AutoCAD 2009. I can't open any drawings created by versions higher than 2009.

ReMark has already WBlocked your drawing previously, so Dwg Trueview has nothing to do with it.

I still believe the complex linetypes and blocks in your drawing have most likely come from a another Non-AutoCAD program. Not necessarily Microstation. (But could be). You may have used a block or blocks given by others and inserted into your drawing not being aware that it contained the unwanted extra's.

I WBlocked your latest uploaded drawing down to 1.336 KB, but it's too big to upload here.

ReMark will probably get it at a slightly smaller file size because he will not have to save down to AutoCAD 2009 format.

Incidentally, as a matter of course, I also fully purge all my drawings including regapps.

I made it already By your way and write block for double time. In fact that take effect on file size. your guideline is very helpful.

The drawing you uploaded was missing some X-Refs.

For a full evaluation you would have to upload the X-Refs or bind them to the original drawing and upload that.

I am only able to work on your uploaded drawing without X-Refs.

Wblocking and -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD both worked for me. For reference I have attached the drawing I exported to AutoCAD.

If you want to try this, PLEASE COPY YOUR DRAWING INTO A TEMPORARY FOLDER and work on that.

I would not want you to do anything bad to your original drawings.

This lisp will rename your original drawing by adding a suffix -AEC-Original

The drawing exported to AutoCAD will be the same filename as your original drawing and in the same folder.

This lisp is set to not bind X-Refs I believe.

It will save down to AutoCAD 2007 format. You can change the 2007 in the lisp to 2010 if you prefer.

For your X-Refs, I suggest you independently Wblock or -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD them.

AutoCAD 2014 has a Hotfix available from Autodesk to remove the unused DGN Linetypes, really no need to use the LISP. The Hotfix prevents future DGN import problems, also.

Your support is very helpful. But in fact, I cannot work your method with every drawings. And it take time for me. So I already find another method in autodesk forum. It's very helpful. It's delete block LISP. Just use this lisp and write block drawing. It's fantastic
