I am new to using the structural pallete. I chose a w5x16 beam and am working in 3D. I have noticed that it is a block. The only way that I can extrude it is in block editor mode. This is fine but why wont it just extrude not in block editor. Press/Pull works. I just do not see the point I guess.

You can't extrude a block, so that's self explanatory. (of course you do have the option to explode the block) The reason PRESSPULL works is because PressPull does not extrude objects directly, rather it works similar to Hatch and attempts to find geometry that can define a REGION. If sucessful, it then extrudes the new/temporary region (and also performs boolean Add/Subtract if applicable)

The structural shapes in AutoCAD are both limited, and not particularly accurate. If you do any significant amount of structural work, I suggest getting Al's Steel Mill. Not only does it have a vast selection of steel shapes (you can do custom shapes as well) but it has the ability to insert them as 2D or 3D.
