    Default Attribute fields

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

i posted a thread last week asking how to put a field into a block attribute (such as date) i was told how to do this and it has sort of worked! what i am doing is creating some new borders for our company that can be inserted as a block, on insertion of the block the user will be prompted for the relevant information (Client, Project, Title etc.). included in the border is a 'date' and 'filename' field, i want these to be auomatically inserted rather than the user having to type them in, however if need be the user should be able to change these fields manually on insertion of the block. I am using LT2006 and so dont have the field attribute button, but i was shown a different way and it worked the only problem is, is that the date comes up with the date of creation of the original CAD file from where the block is inserted, not todays date and also the filename of the original CAD file.

My question then is how do i get these fields firstly to output todays date and to output the filename of the drawing i am currently working on (the drawing i am inserting the block into).

    Thanks in advance

About the date field. When you choose date as a field category it'll show:

    Create Date
    Date
    Plot Date
    Save Date

So I guess you picked up the first one and that's why it shows up that way, just change it and everything will work OK.

thanks zars, i should have said in my post, the field i have used is 'date' im not sure any of the other fields would work:

create date - i dont want the create date
    date - already used
plot date - if i havent inserted a border chances are i havent plotted it yet
save date - this may work as the chances are that i have probably saved the drawing before i insert the border, but what if i had not!

is there a field for 'today's date' or something along those lines

    thanks

Well, I've made a research and discovered this.

Type in %<\AcVar Date \f "d-MMM-yy">% where you want to show up today's date. %<\AcVar CreateDate \f "d-MMM-yy">% will show up the creation's date.

I hope it helps you out.
