Wire Bending design

Recommended Posts

For some years i worked with sheet metal parts.

Using Autocad 2D/3D, and evolved to inventor.

In my current job i work with wire bending.

Consists on bending wire usually with Ø5.5mm thick, on garden material or any other shapes.

In Autocad 2D/3D i have no problem in making the parts but it takes to long to do it.

I tried bending and sweep in inventor 2d and 3d sketch but i found no easy way to do it right.

Is there a easy step by step way for me to do this kind of projects in inventor or i need to keep it on Autocad ???

That is about 3 minutes of work in Inventor.

Before I create an example - are you using r2014 or are you using 2015?

I'm using Inventor 2014.

Wire Loop.ipt

All you need is 2 2D views to create a 3D sweep path.

Frequently I use these 2 2D sketches to create a 3D sketch intersection similar to the link given above, but in this case the path is even easier.

Simply Extrude a surface body and then trim the surface for the two remaining bends.

Sweep along the edge of the surface and then turn off the Visibility of the surface body.

Any changes to the sketch or extrusion dimensions will automatically update the part.

Drag the red End of Part marker up the feature tree to just under Sketch1.

Examine

Exit sketch. Right click on Sketch1 and turn off Dimension Visibility.

Continue down the tree.

Finally, hide the surface body.

Here's one I did years ago, back when I knew nothing, as opposed to now, where I've forgot everything.

That looks like torture! Get lazy!

Great tutorial JD. Another way you can do this Barbwier is and I'm sure you use them being into wire bending is the XYZ's you can use put the XYZ into an excel spread sheet and import them straight into a 3d sketch the sweep the profile.
