Unhappy Waiting Time For Walkthrough Videos-Resolution Issues

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

Hiya lads! basically getting down to doing "ANIPATH"s (walk throughs lol) and basically my PC is dying when I'm trying to produce one, kinda getting (if anyones seen it before) the whole white screen (Task Manager-Not Responding), however it is gradually producing the frames and is churning away, but I mean anyone any ideas? Obviously I can lower things like facet res or turn down resolution (to a crappy 300x400 or somat) and quality from high to low but anyone know of any key factors relating to this issue??? It would seem to produce a walk through of any reasonable length or quality i.e. (640x400 @ high) or somthing will take me all night... any ideas.

So pretty god damn good PC wise.

all night is nothing... that's just the way it is. If you want a decent size + quality then it takes time
I've rendered animations that have taken upwards of 4 days to render on on dual processors.

Yep, that's why serious rendering is done on "farms" where the work is done by lots of networked computers.

not a bad PC for the job, but i bet i know what can cause the huge delay. is this a manufactured PC (that you bought at a store) or did you build it? either way, go to Start --> Run, type MSCONFIG to bring up the System Configuration Utility, go to the Startup Tab, and Disable All, restart. now, before you render, turn off any other programs running, even your screen saver. also, if you can, get a SATA hard drive - it can handle WAYYYYY more data transfer than IDE, so check up on that. also, a RAM upgrade isn't needed, but would help a lot.

the thing is, when you render things like this, it's rendering in a complete raw format. i've seen a 30 second file get as big as 2GB. think about it, your computer has to process almost 70MB a second to play that back, which is overkill for most PC's, not to mention to time taken to actually perform the render.

the point i'm trying to make, is your PC has all the power it needs, but i bet it's other things that are holding you back. it's kinda like putting a 50mph governer on a sportscar that goes 150mph - the car has all the power, but you're being held back. make sure your computer is cleaned and tuned for the application, then when you start your render, turn off your monitor and go do something. see if that helps

I don't get something. I'm a flight sim fan. Combat flight sims. Frame rate is life. Typically I need 30 FPS in a sim to keep up. And these sims look like this...

Keep in mind these are gorund objects in a sim. A flight sim, where long distance rendering is key. If you ever end up seeing these ground objects up close like this it's because you're dead.

    From the air...

Now I realize that even if these look pretty impressive, they aren't on the same page as the walkthrus in VIZ or core AutoCAD. But pretty damn lovely all the same, and coming at you at 20+ frames a second. Takes the CAD software literally hours to do a single frame sometimes.

    I just don't get it

games aren't being rendered into a raw *.avi format.... totally different type of "rendering".

Is RAW outdated? You can rip game tracks to AVI and it doesn't take very long compared to CAD renders.

Does anybody know if (and how) can AutoCAD use a compression codec (like divx or xvid) for animation procedure?

probably the easiest way is to export the rendering to RAW 1st, then use a program like Sorenson Squeeze or equivalent to rerun the video through.

although, if you have a Codec Selection listing when you export, then just install the codec and you should be able to choose it. i'm not familiar with '07 so i wouldn't know, but i do know how other programs work because i do plenty of video renderings in my spare time. might want to F1 that one...
