Dimension center of "wall" best practices

In my part of the world, we dimension to the centerline of interior residential partition walls. My walls are really just two parallel lines, (I am using vanilla Autocad.) so there is really no geometry that the dimension is associating to. Right now I am just using; RightClick>mid between two points' over and over when running a dimension string.

The main problem is sometimes unassociated dimensions or "partial" associated dimensions jump around when I edit them as described in this thread: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-2013-2014-2015-2016/objects-move-dimension-locations-aren-t-maintained/td-p/3488364

What would others do when they need to dimension between the mid point of two objects like this where there is no reference?
