orienting a UCS

How do I establish a UCS with one axis lying on a line of random xyz orientation, and another axis strictly horizontal according to World UCS?

That helps - is this it?

Set UCS>World.

UCS>Object, click on the random line. UCS has X axis lying on the random line as seen in Top view, Y axis horizontal.

UCS>3-points, click 1 on UCS Origin, 2 on the random line, 3 polar horizontal along the Y axis.

Job done - but am I missing something - can this be simplified?

Thanks v much for swift reply - almost like asking a mate across the table - all done in 20secs!

Edit: Ah - even better - UCS>ZA - does it in one.

Across the ocean, across the table...all the same difference these days (well almost).

Question re: AutoCAD 2006. Doesn't it have the Dynamic UCS feature? Can't recall.

2006? I've updated that to 2009, also confessing to using BricsCAD these days.

Yes 2009 has DUCS - but AFAIK only works on faces of solids. So would it help in this case - am I mising a good trick?
