Permadock my Command Window

So we just got upgraded to version 2016 and with AutoCAD "upgrade" is a dubious term.

Anyhow - I have a bit of a quibble, every time 2016 starts up my command window is off floating again. I've clicked the lock button but it always returns to a floating window when I start up AutoCAD again. I know it only takes a second or two to dock it but seriously it's irking the @#$ out of me. Is there anyway to permanently DOCK this stupid thing?

I have since day one.

As to your opinion of an upgrade, if you look at the new features, you will see a lot of really good stuff has been added since 2010.

Do you open AutoCAD from a shortcut or do you double click files in file explorer?

Do you have a profile switch in your shortcut?

Are you using workspaces?

I'm sure. We just upgraded from 2013 a few days ago so I'm still going through growing pains. I use workspaces all the time and have it saved. I use the AutoCAD shortcut and rarely if ever doube click in explorer.

And I deleted the profile switch IT put on my shortcut so I don't load up the infernal company profile.

Thanks, sorry - it's Monday :P

I'm not endorsing changing the profile that you should be using but have you tried adding your own profile switch to the shortcut?

I'm just guessing at solutions because I've never had trouble with my profile. Hopefully someone more versed in this stuff will chime in.

If I could get it to turn my current set up into a profile I would. But the profiles tool in the options menu isn't behaving the way I want it to. I add to list, and then set the new one I added as current and suddenly all my menus and stuff disappear. It's so asinine.

Once you have docked the command line it is simply a matter of saving the Workspace. You can use the name supplied by AutoCAD (ex. - Drafting & Annotation) or do a "saveas" to a new name.

Another option if you already have a new/different workspace defined...

With the Menu Bar activated go to Tools > Workspaces > Workspace Settings. Select the one you want as default in the "My Workspace =" drop down.

If you want to start AutoCAD using a specific workspace via the desktop shortcut....right click the icon, select Properties and add the /w startup switch to the end of your target.

Example:

Target: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\acad.exe" /product ACAD /language "en-US" /w "My Custom Workspace"
