Locked first line...

Just had the following problem manifest itself recently that I've not had previously.

Whenever I draw a line by specifying length & orientation the line is Locked - it does not show to be locked (or frozen) in the layer window; just see a small red lock icon as shown in attachment and unable to delete, modify, or incorporate into a block as the program sees the line as locked.

It's hard to see but upon using the Less Than command a small red & white Lock icon appears in section with the line length.

Thoughts?

Thanks, Steve

What version of AutoCAD are you using?

Sounds like a Parametric Constraint, I can't view your image at work.

Using version 2016.

We're using via a monthly subscription from a 3rd party that has contracted w/ AutoDesk; we'll receive updates prompts from time to time - I've spoken w/ another co-worker but he's not experiencing the same problem.

Assuming it's a Parametric Constraint - Is this a setting I can change? Is so, where?

Thanks,

Steve

Your profile says AutoCAD 2002.

At the top of the screen shot it says "AutoQuotes Designer 2016".

And your last post says you are using AutoCAD 2016.

What's going on here?

Are you drawing on a layer that is locked by any chance?

I had not updated my profile - done now.

Screen shot shows: 'AutoQuotes Designer 2016 E:\Nana's Fried Chicken.dwg'

Note: AutoQuotes is the 3rd Party we contract with and they provide CAD via license they have from Autodesk.

I was assuming CAD version 2016 but now realize I may or may not have CAD-2016; the 2016 assumption is based upon Auto'Quotes' Version 2016 - the program is supposed to always be updated to the latest released by AutoDesk.

Hope that clarifies some...

Are you drawing on a locked layer?

Re: Constraints. Look at your very bottom of your screen. If Infer Constraints are enabled the icon will be a bluish color. The icon consists of two squares (one open, one filled) connected by a vertical line.

Not a locked layer - first thing I checked. I've also tried different layers but same result.

RE: Infer Constraints - Don't see that icon anywhere (bottom or elsewhere). I also checked Customization menu in case it was not active; didn't see there either.

Sounds like I need to reach out to our 3rd party supplier's IT dept - first course will probably be to delete and re-install the program; I was hoping it was just a setting change.

Thanks all.

Did you look on the Parametric panel?

Did you check the system variable CONSTRAINTINFER?

What is your experience using AutoCAD?

You can always check the AutoCAD Help file to find out basic information about commands (where found, how used, etc.).

Thanks!!! CONSTRAINT SETTINGS did it.

I unchecked 'Show Lock Icon for Annotational Constraints' - I still see the lock icon but the line is NOT locked now; there may be more to it but at least the line is not locked. May be a band-aid fix...

I'm mediocre w/ CAD if can't tell... We use it for restaurant layouts; bread-and-butter is the equipment sales.

Thanks again - at least for now.
