No, it's not tricky at all. For example:

 

Initiate the RECTANGLE command and then draw a rectangle.

Initiate the HATCH command, select the Rectangle, hit Enter. Done.

 

The main thing you have to understand is that you need a closed boundary to contain the Hatch. If you want to Hatch a single room, draw a polyline boundary to define the hatch area and then initiate the HATCH command and pick the boundary. It really is as simple as that.

Thank you, didnt realise I had to draw round the object I want to hatch!!

 

Last thing I want to do is to copy that drawing to a new template, I dont need to be able to explode it or anything later as we are not attempting to draw floor plans, any modifications to the building layout we would request an updated floor plan
