Ctrl+shift+A is Select Similar on my Civil 3D. Ctrl+A was used to toggle groups in DOS and still works in a macro, but is Windows default Select All everywhere else.

I added a flyout to the "Object Snap Cursor Menu" Shortcut Menu named

$(eval,OSNAP = $(if,$(and,16384,$(getvar,osmode)),"Off","On"))

that has a lot of macros that toggle system variables that update their display automatically.

One of those macros toggles Group On/Off.

Display Name:

$(if,$(and,1,$(getvar,pickstyle)),!.)Group

Command Name: Toggle Groups

Description: Toggle Group Selection Mode

Macro: ^A

Another macro toggles Display Group as Box with a single grip at the center

Display Name:

$(if,$(and,2,$(getvar,groupdisplaymode)),!.)GroupBoxDisplay

Command Name: GroupBoxDisplay

Description: Display Group as Box with a single grip at the center

Macro:

^P'setvar;groupdisplaymode;$M=$(if,$(and,2,$(getvar,groupdisplaymode)),0,2) ^P

The Keyboard Shortcut to "Toggle Pick Style" which toggles Groups on/off is Ctrl+H

If you want it to display and at the command line so you can tell if it's on or off change the macro to ^A
