Some Very Beginner Questions-Scale and Line Type

Hi there,

I actually took an intro CAD class my freshman year 4 years ago, but haven't used it since. Now I'm back at it, and I'm creating a pretty simply drawing, but I'm having some trouble. I chose ISO A0 color dependent for my layout, and when I begin laying out my design according to the dimensions (they're all inches), it's extremely small. So obviously scrolling inward with teh scroll wheel on my mouse fixes that problem, but when I go into the title block mode the drawing is insanely small. I don't see what I'm doing wrong here. I remember when I designed things in my class they always showed up fine on the title block view. For instance I want one of my lines to be 5 inches in length so I click a point, type in 5 and hit enter and the line appears to small until I zoom in.

Also, I defined the various hidden lines, center lines, visible lines, etc in my layers, and even loaded the proper line type for each, but when I draw them the hidden lines, center lines, etc don't show up. They're just a solid line with the color I gave the layer. What gives? Thanks for any help in advance. Btw, I'm using AutoCAD 2002.

change your LTSCALE. you can set it to however you need. just remember this.... if you set your LTSCALE to 1, then that's one repetition of the Linetype per one unit of the drawing. 0.5 is two repititions, and 2 is half a repetition. keep that in mind when setting the LTSCALE. another way is to zoom in on the object, and REGEN the drawing. if you see the linetype show up, then that's the problem.

Yeah I tried setting it at various settings and tried the regen, but it's simply not working. I have my units set to inches as well so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Maybe it would be easier to post the drawing.

Yeah something is screwy with my scale because when I apply the dimensions, they are correct but absolutly huge in size.

Ok I've got the line scale type thing figured out. However, why is my drawing still showing up super small on the paper view?

adjust your PSLTSCALE. remember when switching to Paperspace, the units change.

this is a good rule of thumb: LTSCALE=1, PSLTSCALE=1. search these two variables in Help to read up on descriptions on how it works together.

Thanks, the ltscale got my dimensions in order, but assigning psltscale to 1 doesn't change the size problem, should it be adjusted to something else? My dimensions are also still huge (in size...they're acurate, but just physically larger than the rest of my drawing).

well all PSLTSCALE does is make all linetypes in paperspace the same, no matter how many scaled viewports you have. it's just the way it is... the units change when you go from Model Space to Layout Space. best way to do it, set up the LTSCALE to paperspace, and live with it in modelspace.

now, dimensions are a different story. you kinda have to plan ahead. look at this thread i started awhile back to get your dimensions in order.... on the second page, post #14 i show you how to set it up.

Wow thanks, the dimstyle really helped...it's starting to come back to me now. However, if you get the chance, could you look at the file I attached and see what I mean about how small the drawing is in paper space? I'm still just kind of confused by that.
