I'm hoping some of the experts can lend a hand with my slow/laggy experience with some CAD Drawings. ReMark Posted February 27, 2017 Share Posted February 27, 2017 This is a Thinkpad 440s? Has LT always been slow and lagging or are these symptoms recent? Is hardware acceleration enabled? Just double checking here. There is 12GB of RAM installed? My initial guess would be it has something to do with the onboard graphics chip which is entry level at best. Thanks in advance, looking forward to the replies. I'm with Remark. The BOLD above could very well be your issue. Do you attach xrefs, for instance PDF pages? They burn Video memory up. Do you have AutoSave set on something like 5 minutes? Everyone trying to run on an an on board graphics processor eventually has similar problems. If my memory serves me correctly 2012 LT needs at least 2 gig of video (display) memory. I am not aware of any after-market video upgrades for a thinkpad. Dino Ciccarelli Posted February 28, 2017 Author Share Posted February 28, 2017 Good Morning, Sorry, It took me until today to respond, in the slow season I typically don't bring my work laptop home for the weekend (no reason too!). Here are the Responses below, I attempted to keep them in order from earliest to latest: 1. Correct, the model is a ThinkPad 440s. 2. To my knowledge, the symptoms have always been present on larger file size dwgs, not really on smaller, much simpler drawings. I will admit it is tough for me to scale as sometimes I go awhile without using CAD on my computer, depends on the timeline and project. 3. Hardware Acceleration is off and unavailable with my current graphics specs. 4. 12GB RAM is installed. 5. Unfortunately, with this laptop, I can't go gutting it since it is company property. The only option that exists for me is asking for an upgraded device for CAD use. They would probably shut it down because my CAD use is so sporadic and usually when I do use it, it doesn't end up being very onerous. 6. I do attached PDFs sometimes, I notice a much more drastic slowdown with that function. 7. Autosave function interval, I'm actaully not sure what it is set at. I have never tinkered with it. ReMark Posted February 28, 2017 Share Posted February 28, 2017 Can you attach a copy of one of your larger file size drawings? You can strip out any information regarding the company name/location. Outside sources....as in do you get drawings from other companies that you then use directly (by adding your own content) or that you "borrow" from as in copy/paste from their drawing to yours.
