YZ Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I'm building dynamic blocks for our cad standards. But I'm not sure how to make them available to be inserted into all drawings. For a normal block I just create a drawing. And then it's as simple as INSERT, BROWSE. But I can only find the dynamic block commands inside BLOCK EDITOR. As this updates a block reference inside a dwg, I don't know how to make them available to all my templates. I'm sure it's straight forward, but the help files didn't cover that one aspect. Quote
lpseifert Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Make a dwg that contains your DBs, drag and drop them to a Toolpalette. Quote
YZ Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 I have not used tool palettes. But I just had a quick run through, and that seems to be a great solution, thanks. I'm still a bit primitive, but this seems a better feature than I imagined. Does this mean that that my DBs are not separate drawings, they are just defined within a template drawing; set it to my TP, access it from there, and edit it within the drawing on the tool palette? Does that question even make sense?! Quote
dbroada Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 dynamic blocks are exactly the same as normal blocks. They can exist as a dwg on their own or just within a drawing. Most of mine are individual files but my "rail mounted components" are all in a single drawing dropped onto a palette. Quote

Sorry, this probably seems so basic to you. If I am in a drawing file that I want to use as a standard block, can I put Dynamic Parameters straight in the normal AutoCAD screen somehow? Quote
dbroada Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 you can. type BEDIT and chose . I prefer to create named blocks in a blank drawing though as it is far easier to test them. Quote
