Hi,

I'm an extreme newbie, working on my first drawing.

I created a 2-D drawing with 2 layers. on layer 1 I drew a rectangle polyline. On layer 2 I drew a pline that "clipped a corner of the rectangle. Then I drew another pline that clipped the corner of the rectangle below the previously clipped corner. I then trimed away both corners using the the plines as the reference object to do the triming.

Now when I try to get an inquiry area, the area answer is only that area that would be the smaller rectangle that would fit inside the old rectangle less the clipped side. I.e., I don't get the area of the whole 8 sided figure.

Does the area command only work on a single pline object that is closed to itself? Or will it work on multiple pline objects that have carefully snapped ends on points of other pline objects? And the multiple plines are on different layers.

I'm attaching the file.

Thank you.

to get the area of you figure you can not use 'object' option but will have to use default pickpoint option. Type 'area' at command line & than follow the propmpt & pick all the point in sequence(colockwise or anticolckwise)

The other option is to join all the segments into one poly line & than it will give you the are with 'object' option in single click.
