drawing in feet rather then inches and fractions of a inch.

I know where to make this change so I can make a simple office design. Now, the issue is, How can I make the model of the outside dimensions of the office space fit withing model space and have the entire grid show up? Office space is 50 feet wide by 40 feet deep. Once I have this setup, then I can start drawing. The default measurements for the drawing space seem to be less then 6 feet.

To setup, I use wizards, quick setup, architecture. Setup width as 50' and length as 40'. The quick setup window shows it as 480.00 x 600.00.

Lortech I think you would rather setup using "DIMSTYLE" on the command line.

Then setup whatever you need. Or, whatever you want.

Thanks for the help I not sure why I had issues with the outer office dimensions. I drew up the rooms. This will be fore data drops in each room.

Here we use triangle symbols for network cable or voice but this is just blank so I can learn autocad more. What do you think?

Sounds like your limits were set smaller than your drawing there is a difference between Z All and Z extents all uses the limits values.

Added a dynamic swing door you might like to have someday.

Upper left room, or whatever, do you need to get in that space?

Thanks a bunch for the drawing setup. This part I need to learn more so it looks good.

I have a few questions though. I am trying to look for the standard block symbol for Ethernet jacks/ports that I can use for the walls. When I did some work in the past, I recall the Ethernet ports or telephone were usually triangles. Darn if I can recall anything more then that. Example, differentiate between a telephone jack and cat5 jack block symbol.

I do not want to invent my own block symbols. Also, Where do the block symbols usually stored/saved at? When I saved them, I put them in one of my own folders, but the the blocks do not come up when I do a insert block. What is the default path for blocks?

Secondly, is there a ruler that can do quick vector length measurements without drawing lines? I want to do a quick measurement of network cable across the floor space to patch panel.

As far as sizing the model space, what are the steps to do it correctly? I thought I knew what I was doing but guess not.

Lastly, can autocad draw a drawing on four 8x11 sheets of paper ?

I finally found what I recall. I used to read off of Bell Telephone blueprints and rember these symbols. http://newsletters.hagerman.com/newsletters/ebul79-CT.htm

Now, just need to download or make my own. I wonder on shading "make a closed quad" a surface so to look like the triangle in this site half dark.

Yea it was It was a little frustrating trying to locate the right symbols. I am a stickler for standards and do not want to deviate from it.

I can make the blocks, but in my 2002 version, when I type i for insert on command line, the drop down box does not show them. Perhaps the path is messed up? How do I correct the path, and locate these blocks? Did a search on xp and could not locate the block names.

Perhaps, make a small drawing, write protect it.

Open the drawing and copy to your new drawing, kind of a legend.

Close the symbol drawing, no changes. Or, if you want to change it, you will have to save with another name; i.e.: symbols.dwg to symbolsa.dwg.

The example below, has both symbols and the line type.

Make any line types, length, arcs. Match properties to any of the three line types below.

Actually, its okay just to put the symbol where you want it on the wall. If you have a duplex single gang box on the wall, put two arrows side by side. If its a dueplex double gang box, put four arrows side by side.

As far as labeling is concerned, its floor, business office,room number. So it would be 02-50-D101. Other techs may just label it as D101. but how does a tech know where D101 is if there are more then one floor cabled to the same patch panel?

BTW, now I need to know how to avoid flaky companies. I did a site survey for this one and now, he is not calling back!
