edit in place x-ref

After doing an Edit x-ref in place edit on a dwg file, the first letter in the name of the file changes from uppercase to lowercase. Thats to say the x-ref file itself chnages from

A-40.1-01 to a-40.1-01 ..... Why does this happen, and how can I get it to stop happening. ANy insight is greatly appreciated

Really, nobody has any ideas about what this could be?
