Unable To Paste Floor Plan Into Another Drawing...

Hello All-

I am new here, and thought someone could help me with a pasting problem.

I am trying to paste some floor plans into a drawing. The first floor pasted fine. The second and third floors will not go. When I attempt to paste either of them, the Command line says "_pasteclip", like it completed the function (no error messages) but I am not prompted where to insert the plan, and the plan is not anywhere in model space (zoom-extents).

I have also tried inserting the floor as a block, but that will not work. I am able to XREF the floor plans and they show fine in the drawing when I do that, but once I bind the XREF, the floor plan disappears.

Has anyone had this problem before, or have any recommendations on how I can get the other two floors pasted in my drawing?

Are all layers "thawed" and "on"?

What is the source of the floor plans? Outside consultant or client?

Yes, all layers (61) are turned on and thawed. The plan(s) also do not have any XREF's. All three came from an engineer. Just puzzled as to why the last two would not want to paste, it is like they disappear into space. Also ran a "recover" on them, and purged the layers.

Could this possibly be an "enabler" problem??? Just don't know...

Did the engineer create the plans using AutoCAD 2007 by any chance?

You could try inserting the whole drawing as a block and see if that works.

have you tried INSERTing them instead of pasting. you may have to WBLOCK them to a folder somewhere first.

Not sure what version they are using, still would that explain why I am able to insert the first but not the others two?

I tried to insert them as a block, and it ask me for insertion points/scaling but after you enter them it pops up "invalid" in the command line.

I have also tried these commands in just a "blank" new drawing, to see if it was my original drawing causing the problem and get the same results.

What options should I try first when I use "WBLOCK", I am not familiar with this command...

did you try restarting autocad, or even re-booting the computer. Seems the function didn't complete. Can you go back and paste the first floor again without any problems?

WBLOCK is a way of transfer blocks from the current drawing to an external file, thereby making it available for use in other drawings. one of its clever tricks is to strip the file of all unwanted layers etc.

I will give WBLOCK a try and see if I can figure it it out to get this craziness to end!
