calvinmh Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I tried every single way to try to extend the with of the hole body but it's not working in any way The problem is its a solid body which looks like a rectangle shape frame, and i made it as a hole union which i cant simply extend the top and the bottom widths. Please do help ;((((( Thank You Quote
Dadgad Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Welcome to the forum. If you use the SLICE command you can cut it in half (at the midpoint along the axis which you want to extend). I like to use a CIRCLE as a slicing OBJECT, you could also define it by PLANE, once you start the SLICE command. After you cut it in half switch to an ISOMETRIC view so that you can better see what you are doing. Turn on ORTHO, then you can use PRESSPULL on the faces which you need to lengthen. Only lengthen them by half of the total distance by which you want to stretch your frame. Once you have the appropriate horizontal members lengthened you can switch to TOP view and MIRROR your 3D solid about the center point (defined by the newly stretched horizontal members). Go back into an ISOMETRIC perspective, or use ORBIT to confirm that everything looks good before you use the UNION command to put it all back together with the new length. You could also use the 3DMIRROR command directly from your isometric view without going back to TOP view, but if you are not familiar with it, just using MIRROR from TOP view will do the same thing. Dadgad Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) Look at the images and you will see the sequence of steps I used to lengthen the unioned bench. In Top view I drew a line to identify the midpoint of the items which I wanted to lengthen, crossing the axis which I wanted to lengthen. I switched to an ISOMETRIC view, the better to see what is about to happen in 3 dimensions. Using the SLICE command, I selected the 3 horizontal slats (which I need to cut to half of their desired overall length). I defined the SLICING plane with the YZ option, then selected the endpoint of (or any point on) the midpoint line, and executed the command. After slicing the bench I deleted the left over legs. I used the PRESSSPULL command to PULL each of those horizontal members by 300mm, in succession. I then used the MIRROR3D command to mirror the newly lengthened half bench into the full length item. I then used the UNION command to reassemble them into a single SOLID entity. The example I did was very much like the one you are going to do, just take your time, and you will do fine with it. Obviously this same technique can be applied on any axii you choose. Edited July 20, 2012 by Dadgad Quote
