If PressPull has been used on those then the grips go away, something to consider when choosing PP or Extrude. Quote

Meaning that an EXTRUDE based 3D Model enables Z axis numeric feedback, grip manipulation and input via QUICK PROPERTIES or PROPERTIES. I've noticed this, but never thought the distinction through, in terms of relative merits or best use assessment. As is usually the case, while automation or dynamic behavior may speed things up, there may be an underlying cost (meaning the absence of Z LENGTH feedback and GRIPS) which may or may not affect one's choice of command, for a given task.
