I am working on a thesis based on Rapid Prototyping and when I export my sliced model as an STL file, I am unable to open the new STL file using AutoCAD2008. However I am able to open the file using SolidWorks 2008. I am confused. Should it open up in AutoCAD 2008 and if yes please give me the steps and if not then how else?

Also what kind of data does a rapid prototyping machine read? Binary or ASCII???

You can download an STL Importer plug-in for Autocad at Sycode.com. The download is a trial version that is good for 10 days. After that you will need to purchase it.
