AQucsaiJr Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I need all my drawings to be automatically saved to 2009. I am using 2010 right now and I don't see the option to Save as 2009 in the Options>Open and Save>Save as: drop down menu. I do see 2010 (*.dwg) which I am guessing is a possible equivalent, but I want to make sure. Quote
Tiger Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 2009 is not a format, the format before 2010 is 2007. Every third release there is a new format. Quote
AQucsaiJr Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 Gotcha... So in both ACAD 2009 and ACAD 2010 the they will save down to 2007 but only 2010+ can save to 2010.... Got it... Thanks Tiger. Quote

And, thanks for the reminder Tiger! At the request of numerous clients I save to 2000 when using '05 and/or '07 depending on my location. Four Thinkpad™ are '05, six desktops are '07. For the work we do, simple plan and elevation plumbing drawings, works for us. Just another reason to avoid the expense of upgrading. Quote
ReMark Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Likewise one cannot save to 2005 or 2006 format instead one must select 2004. Quote

It'll convert all your files within a folder to any other version. And you can consider to change the default save version to 2007. Quote
JCastle Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 you can save in multiple versions of AutoCAD. Tools> Options.... Open and Save tab. "File Save as..." drop box. This will set your default UI to save drawings in format of your choice. In my office I use 2009, had 2010 but too many errors to work out. My classic ribbon was not reading the icon functions. could only use shortcut keys. Anyways, I have to save in '04LT format for everyone else. Quote
Enigma Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Interesting, we were just having this discussion at our office about why my new home version of 2010 can't save to 2009. So it would appear that while Autodesk sends out a new release roughly every year, it's just a bunch of bling for the most part for $3000, and the only real heavy changes come very 3 years. So, in theory, one could open a 2006 saved file on a 2005 machine then, 2009 on a 2008, etc etc ? edit: The discussion came up as a result of a job we are doing converting old manual drawings to cad, and the customer requested them to be saved as 2009. It would appear now that the drawings could be done on any version of Autocad, and then just have the final save done on a 2007 or newer station. There seems to be no apparent way of telling it was not done on 2009, as when a drawing is opened on 2009, it would say opening a 2007 FORMAT file. Not that we want to "cheat" the client, but my guess is they recently upgraded to 2009 and didn't realize there really is no difference between 2007, 2008, and 2009. Quote
dbroada Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 not entirely correct. The format changes every third year but each release introduces or improves functions. This is what you pay for. Its up to you to decide if the improvements are work upgrading for or not. Until recently we were on subscription so we had every release but we only installed 2006, 2008 and I was about to install 2010. Dynamic blocks are my biggest time savers and I think they were released in the intermediate phase. They are also the reason I refuse to save my drawings back too many formats. They don't always survive the round trip and I don't see why my efforts should be compromised by others. Quote
