Intersection point between line and 3D Polyline

Hi! :)

I am working the drawing in the 3D environment. I want to put the point in the intersection between line and 3D Polyline. I can't find the intersection point with a mouse pointer and seed the point in the right place.

Here is the picture of the two lines in question.

Thank you for the help.

Kind regards,

Hrcko

Try using the Apparent Intersection OSnap.

Tip: If the objects have different Z values, Apparent Intersection OSnap snap to the intersection point that coincides with whichever object that's selected first.

Does this video show what you had in mind? If so, remember that Apparent Intersection is based on the current view, and as I previously stated, the intersection is calculated based on the Z value of the first object selected.

Yes, Nestly this is what I had in mind. I must study this video in detail and see how to do this on my drawing. What is the name of the tool bar used in this case (vertical one on the right side)?

Thank you a lot for your time and will to help.

The two toolbars I used in the video are the "View" toolbar and the "OSnap" toolbar. Yours will look a bit different as I use AutoCAD2011 to make the video, but both toolbars are also in 2008. There are other ways to set the view and specify the Appt Intersection Osnap if you don't normally use those toolbars.

Please, can you tell me what is checked in your settings? This is what I have:

I have not yet results as you have in your demo video.

I was manually specifying the OSnap during the POINT command in the video, but to simplify things, try un-checking everything except Apparent Intersection.

So I just tried it again and I think the problem may be the Perspective view causing the "Apparent" intersection to be misplaced. Try switching to Parallel perspective and see if you have better results. (PERSPECTIVE = 0 at the command line)

It is so inconvenient to be an novice in this matter. :(

I can't obtain green mark to reference the line.

There is no doubt, I am doing something wrong.

I may have given you some bad information. I don't think you can use a "running" Apparent Intersection OSNAP when the objects are non-coplanar because AutoCAD won't know which plane to snap to. Did you try specifying the Apparent Intersection OSnap while inside the POINT command, as shown in the video?

If I may suggest an entirely different approach, perhaps you could copy your geometry to a blank area in your drawing, then use TRIM command to find the intersection of the line and the 3D polys.

Thank you, Nesty. I got the same idea to use trim command. Also, I will continue to work on your first instruction, just to finish the task.

You have very nice program for video tutorials. What is its name?

Regards,

Hrcko :)
