Lisp for HO Train layout

Recommended Posts

My Grandson and my self was wanting to create a HO train set layout.

I am not impressed with some of the software out there for train set layouts.

I been using AutoCAD for 35 years and was hopping to find lisp routines  to create HO scale layouts.

Trying to get my grandson more involved in engineering and CAD.

Can anyone direct me to lisp routines or better Train set layout software .

The software out there is not user freely.

The track straight lengths and  radius available are set, so what is stopping you drawing a layout.

Can you cut track ?

Create blocks of the parts, don't have to be very detailed.

Posted here for fun was Lego blocks lisp.

I agree with BIGAL, just create blocks of available pieces and place them as you want.

If you are actually making the track set then most likely the best way, either way you'll need a specific plan and route already in mind.

It would help to know what specialized layout software you have already tried.

Have you taken a look at CADRAIL 10?  It's a railroad design (CAD) program.  They offer a free demo that can be downloaded.  The program also includes a manual in PDF format.  For further information see... Cadrail Features  Just click on the box at the top of the page labeled "Free Demo" and you'll be directed to the download page.  If you want to purchase the program it cost $100.

Dynamic blocks if you are cutting the track to length might be better.

Of course, are you wanting the layout drawn in 3d, or 2d and will you have multiple levels and changes of level. Releasing the inner train spotter, Roco line Ho H0 track train | 3D CAD Model Library | GrabCAD  for an example.

I guess if you want something fancy a DCL with the CAD blocks, a preview picture to choose the block might work
