I've been running 2016 max / Vray on win 11 installed as an in place update from win 10 for at least 2 years now. I did a fresh win11 25H2 installation, now the max installers will not unpack the exe files. When I launch the 001_001.sfx.exe it prompts the unpacker, then just shuts off. I tried shutting off all anti virus and fire wall .. VPN exe, compatibility mode, nothing seems to work, . I was able to install win 10 on a Virtual drive and the Installer worked, so its works, but obvious not an ideal work environment. Anyone have any ideas?

	Hello everyone,

I've already checked the web, as well as the reddit page. The only similar problem with solution I found ended up not working for me, which was to change view with the side bar rather than the cube.

My issue is simple. I'm trying to cut a plane while looking at it from the left in ortographic realistic view. If I look at it at an angle I can cut it any way I want, as well as in perspective mode. But directly from the left and the cut tool seems to either start from a vertice at the bottom of the plane, from the centerpoint of the grid, or from the middle of one of the edges. However it still won't cut, it just seems to imply that I'm able to.

	Hello all

I have a question that i don't really know where to direct and i am fairly a beginner and just getting the hang of things. I understand UV mapping is intended to layout a 3d object flat to allow for texturing. I am also looking into converting a 3d object into a 2d object but not for the same purpose and I doubt it would use the same technology. lets say I have a 3d object that is solid ( with a thickness to it). Something curved liked the letter C and I want to flatten that C to a line (2d ) but still retain the thickness that was in the C shape so I end up with a line with variable amount of thickness that correspond to the original shape "dangling" from that line. I am not sure how to explain this better, but I hope you pros get it. In other words, I want to "unwind" a curved 3d shape to a linear shape whilst retaining its thickness. Essentially for the purpose of folding that shape back into the 3d shape physically after manufacturing that "linear" shape".

I have attached a silly drawing that may or may not help my inquiry

Thanks guy and I would be grateful for any help.

Hi,

I have two boxes and I want to move one to the center of another. In Autocad, I normally use the center of face snap. I am new to 3ds Max. I have activated the Snap Toggle (3 Magnet) and choose only CENTER FACE. However each time the pointer is on the object to be move, only the center of half of the face is selected. The face is actually divided into 2 triangles and the snap treat each as a separate face.

Please advise. Thanks.

Hi All

All of a sudden 3ds max has started acting strange..

I usually build models (architectural) in autocad and then open them up in 3dsmax for applying materials and a environment and then doing some renders.

But now when I import a model as soon as I try to rotate it or zoom in or do anything the model disappears and so does the navigation cube and I can't seem to recover it, yet it must be still there as all the layers are still listed in the layer explorer, its driving me insane......

Any idea anyone, please

This one was done back in August of last year. It's a close up render of a granite gazebo that is part of a larger estate garden. All work, and rendering, was done in 3ds Max with minor touch ups and composition in Photoshop.

Hi everyone,

I have a complex mesh representing underground galeries from a mine. It was made by my client in Promine which is an extension of Autocad for the mining industry.

First, I needed to convert this mesh into 3Dface so my software (Geovia Gems from Dassault Systems) can read and import it. This is the easy part and I've already managed to do that in Autocad simply by exploding the mesh which seems to successfully convert said mesh into 3Dface.

Where I'm having big problems is that once it's converted into 3Dfaces, I have all the coplanar faces (which seems to be relics from the mesh) of the galeries forming some kind of walls within the tunnels. I can't calculate a volume in my Gems software because those walls are generating a massive amount of self-intersections in the tunnels. The triangulation is pretty screwed-up inside.

I thought that maybe there's a way to create some kind of shell only around the outer faces of the galeries while ignoring everything that is inside to get rid of those walls. I've tried the shell modifier but it also create a shell around those pesky coplanar walls inside my tunnels so I end up with the same problem. I've also tried to extrude and vertex weld but no luck there either.

In the end, I really need to get rid of those coplanar faces to form an "empty" tunnel. I managed to do it relatively quickly in Sketchup but it seems that this software is doing something to the data and I kind of lose my triangulation and the coordinates of my vertices in the process. Even if I export the result in CAD format, my Gems software says that the file I'm trying to import has no triangulations.

I've included a DWG sample (sorry I had to split the file as it was just over the 500kb size limit) of a mining galery corresponding to the original mesh made by my client. I'm using this exact sample to test solutions because the whole complex is pretty huge and takes way to long to test each time. Maybe I'm doing something wrong from the start so I figured that I would provide the original mesh.

I've been trying all kinds of procedures and custom scripts in Autocad and tried some stuff in 3DS Max without any good results so far. I really hope that there's a solution besides manually removing each coplanar "wall" since it would take a tremendous amount of time to achieve given the size of the mining complex.

I'm in no way an Autocad/Max expert but I usually always manage to fix my problems. This issue is one of a kind and I'm unable to fix it

Big thanks!

Hi

I was at uni today and lots of people are telling me I should get 3D studio max as its better than 3D CAD.

Any thoughts ?

Is it easier to learn and is the output better ?

Thank you
