	Hi,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I'm having this annoying issue where I'm trying to edit my editable poly by clicking 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 as shortcuts to get to the components of the poly, but in many cases I have added a modifier which does not allow me to shortcut directly to editing the poly. So I'm force's to use the mouse to manually take me to editing the poly components instead of the shortcut.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Any shortcuts to getting directly to editing the components of the poly even if the modifier is obstructing it? Thanks.

<p>
	Hi,
</p>

<p>
	I recently installed 3ds Max 2020 and I cant find the  Graphite/ Polygon Modeling tab on the ribbon. I have tried reverting to startup layout and turning the ribbon on an off. I also have  editable poly object selected, but still the tools does not show up. I've tried seraching in max help and customize the ribbon without any luck. It is probably a really stupid small setting somewhere, but I cant find it. Anyone had same problem? Or have a solution?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The only available tabs on my ribbon is : Get Started, Object Inspection, Basic Modeling, Materials, Object Placement, Populate, View and Lighting and Rendering
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have also googled for days without getting any wiser, please help  <img alt=";)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" title=";)" width="20" data-src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/uploads/emoticons/wink.png.fda11fac81995eee7404533d89a7a3b6.png"></p>

<p>
	Hi Everyone,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I'm coming back to using max after a 7 year hiatus and using max 2018.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I import Step files or inventor files into max and they seem to be split into multiple layers/objects( when I look at the layer manager as attached below).
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/uploads/monthly_2019_10/700181049_ScneExplorer.PNG.5cc372626733ad55967d65951d0e149d.PNG" data-fileid="52759" data-fileext="PNG" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="52759" data-ratio="17.25" width="800" alt="2030454986_ScneExplorer.thumb.PNG.d745add4217544be5ab62eae70fa531b.PNG" src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/uploads/monthly_2019_10/2030454986_ScneExplorer.thumb.PNG.d745add4217544be5ab62eae70fa531b.PNG"></a>
</p>

<p>
	However whenever I try to click on the actual object it comes up as one part as shown below.
</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="52760" data-ratio="53.62" width="567" alt="337209554_oneobject.PNG.000fd2a22061592938e75b943e483aa0.PNG" src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/uploads/monthly_2019_10/337209554_oneobject.PNG.000fd2a22061592938e75b943e483aa0.PNG"></p>

<p>
	My main problem is that I need to be able to get the item as one object before I can export it to the final destination program which we use at my company.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have converted the file to edit poly then click on the attached list window, but the file just shows up one layer so can't seem to attach the files all together.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/uploads/monthly_2019_10/319291004_AttachList.PNG.abbb65ac8cddfc695eb993c5ee18e07f.PNG" data-fileid="52761" data-fileext="PNG" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="52761" data-ratio="112.36" width="712" alt="1258406252_AttachList.thumb.PNG.31a69d8393c06082b90f388340c63b50.PNG" src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/uploads/monthly_2019_10/1258406252_AttachList.thumb.PNG.31a69d8393c06082b90f388340c63b50.PNG"></a>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	So I guess to summarise- file is coming into max as multiple parts but I can't seem to select individually.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have converted the file to edit poly then click on the attached list window, but the file just shows up one layer so ican't seem to attach the files all together.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Any advice?
</p>

<p>
	I am facing a problem. I have a 3D rectangular sheet with cavities on it. Now, i need to wrap this sheet around a  cylinder. I have tried Path deform tool but its not working as i expected which is also shown with the help of attached picture. Below are attached 2 pictures and one source file. If some one has any idea of how to do it and what are the mistakes i am making, i am happy to hear those.

<p>Just started my first model from scratch - our living room (royal living room actually), and I need some help.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>as you can see from the parameters, the dimensions are: L = 49, W = 4, H = 24 (since our living room's actual dimensions are: L = 12, w = 0.5, h = eight) all these measurements are in feet (as I don't know too much metric, only that 36 inches is about 1 meter, 6 feet is about 2 meters) so please bear with me.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>one wall in our livingroom is 9 feet long (this is opening into stairwell/front door) and another wall has a big picture window, a third wall has a trapezoid cutout in it (this is opening into hallway/bedroom).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Problem # 1: I don't know how to cut shapes out (for window/trapezoid opening) into walls - how (is this in Max Bible - where?) do I do this?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Problem # 2: When I try to shorten the L of one wall (to provide for stairwell/front door entryway) all the other walls (which were created by cloning as an instance) shorten with it - how to I prevent this so that I can change dimensions on only 1 wall and leave all others alone (intact/unchanging)?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>See screenshot: </p>
<p> </p>
<p>Thanks in advance.</p>

<p>Hi all. not sure if this topic has been posted here before.</p>
<p>I need to export 2D line elevation drawings from a 3D model in 3Ds max.</p>
<p>googled some topics but got no straight answer,, only that there is no straight way to do it.</p>
<p> </p>

<p>Hi everyone.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I am looking for some help / advice / tutorial links etc. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>I am trying to get a site layout (roads, footpaths, buildings, open space) from Auto CAD into 3DS Max. I am quite new to Max, i know how to import and scale my drawing, and i know how some of the modifier tools work, but that's about it! </p>
<p> </p>
<p>Does anyone know of any decent tutorials on how to turn a CAD site layout into a 3D model, using the original CAD line and without having to retrace the whole thing in Max? </p>
<p> </p>
<p>Many thanks</p>
<p> </p>

<p> </p>
<p>Can anyone offer any advice / guidance........I am trying to create a solid model for some 3D printing I am doing, but what I wish to do is take an image of my dogs head for example and create an embossing on a solid plate....like a memorial plaque you see etc...which have been skilfully crafted by hand.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I should add I have access to most advanced Image editing &amp; CAD packages.</p>

<p>Hi,</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I created this object:</p>
<p> </p>
<p><img src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" alt="attachment.php?attachmentid=58935&amp;cid=1&amp;stc=1" data-src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=58935&amp;cid=1&amp;stc=1"><img src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" alt="attachment.php?attachmentid=58950&amp;cid=1&amp;stc=1" data-src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=58950&amp;cid=1&amp;stc=1"></p>
<p> </p>
<p>I created the highlighted face with the Cap command in the Border menu under the Editable Poly modifier. But it seems like I cannot edit it any further... I am unable to move, rotate or scale it properly. When I try to move it downwards on the z axis for example it looks like this:</p>
<p> </p>
<p><img src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" alt="attachment.php?attachmentid=58936&amp;cid=1&amp;stc=1" data-src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=58936&amp;cid=1&amp;stc=1"><img src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" alt="attachment.php?attachmentid=58951&amp;cid=1&amp;stc=1" data-src="https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=58951&amp;cid=1&amp;stc=1"></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Is there a way to create a face on a Border that behaves properly?</p>

<p></p><div style="margin-left:25px">and I know the selection lock (by space bar) is off...</div>

<p>Hi,</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I am very very new to CAD and modeling and I got a problem with the connection of the two. When I import my drawing into 3ds I am able to use the extrude command, so I can make it a 3d object easily. But I cannot use any "convert to" commands on the object so I cannot edit it in any way. What am I missing here?</p>

<p>I am making rocket components with my 3d Printer.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>one project is to make interesting 3d SKINS to built a rocket out of that would be pretty hard to impossible to easily do without 3d printing.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>anyway. I am starting simple. star shape.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Here is what I have done.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Star Shape. Adjust</p>
<p>Extrude</p>
<p>Taper</p>
<p>convert to editable poly</p>
<p>shell</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Shell is a new one printer had problems till I realized I was wrapping a 2d plane into 3d space and that was ticking off the slicer.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>adding shell "made it" a 3d shape and make the edge more nozzle compatible as well.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>so I made a tube nose cone and fin can. all is well except the nose cone. will not print usable (thin and unstable)</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I realize I don't need the nose cone to be hollow as only its exterior dimensions are important not its interior dimensions</p>
<p> </p>
<p>the problem I am having is its coming out too thin and the tricks to thicken the body tube don't work on the nose cone for some reason.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>if I made it solid I gain several advantages. for starters far far fewer polygons so my slicer won't puke its guts up trying to slice it.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Second I can tell it to make it hollow with 2 outer layers. ie get my thicker walls that I need.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I tried removing the shell modifier that will make it a solid part again but this changes the "shape" of the object and that is really bad since it won't match the outline of the other objects.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>no adjusting of the outline seems to have the needed effect it works but I can not get the same shape. its always "off" by enough that it won't line up with the other parts (mostly the tips of the star points too skinny and I can't fatten them up.)</p>
<p> </p>
<p>if I could just retain my shape with shell and gut the inside and make it solid that should work but I can not figure out how to do that.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>suggestions?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Here is the file</p>

<p>Hi, </p>
<p> </p>
<p>I have created a 3D image of a bridge in AutoCAD 2014 using 3D Solids, Surface Networks/Lofts and Mesh. When I import this into 3DS I am unable to assign materials to some of the surfaces. Its like they are hidden. I can select the polygon but cant apply materials. This is very random as some of the surfaces are fine and they have been created in exactly the same way in AutoCAD. Is there a way of making these surfaces 'live' for want of a better word ??</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Thanks</p>
