Scale Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Can i convert a pdf to a dwg without special software Quote
richjamesw Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 dont think so, but if you find out let me know. Quote
slimjramirez Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I thought I've heard/read about a program that has the concept down, but any attempts/iterations of doing this process severely botches; to the point of "you might as well just do it over by hand/(mouse) again" I do believe the pdf->dwg "is the holy grail of CAD", -someone from this board Quote
Angora*ribbon Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I have used a programme (free) to convert PDF to DWG in the past. The issues I encountered where scaling it to size, and haveing to plot to establish how thick the lines were. I never saw the end result (I work from home and plot via email at the office) however I am told they came out well. I will edit as soon as I know what programme I used (It was rec' on this forum) Ok, I used this programmes free trial. Looking back on the post I made at the time I had issues with scaling in Viewport, but I have a feeling it was user error http://www.aidecad.com/ Quote
Guest Alan Cullen Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 As far as I know.....it can't be done...... There are members here who say that some PDF files are actually vector files....but I have never come across them.... The bottom line is.....acad is vector.......PDF is raster.....therein lies the problem..... Quote
NuttZ Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Can i convert a pdf to a dwg without special software can't do it...it will make the Universe blow up. Quote
slimjramirez Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Well the whole vector/raster thing makes me think: Considering text PDFs; There are PDFs that are, yes, technically "raster"/just an image. But you can create a PDF from a text file that when you get the final PDF product; you're still able to search for words/phrases, highlight actual text lines (not just highlighing some arbitrary portion of an image). I don't think it'd be impossible for CAD programers to be able to either really study how these programs do it/reverse-engineering them, and figure out a way to make a super-efficient program specifically for DWG->PDF->DWG that maintained all vector info. Even if layers are tossed and turned, and text has to be set to some standard... just the basic skeletal vectors, and proper scaling...then the user could take it from there. i think it's possible. unless that's exactly what Angora just posted, lol. nscherneck Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 interesting, i always assumed that a PDF was a vector file. ive done quite a bit of work in Adobe Illustrator and im pretty sure the PDFs it creates, from vector objects, remain vector. i could be wrong though. Quote
slimjramirez Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 'tis what I'm thinking. like my thoughts about pdf from word processing programs....there is the ability to retain certain aspects like words and text, and quite possibly the vectors (esp. from a program like Adobe) from a 'vector'-based program. Maybe they just haven't found a primo way for CAD-type programs. Quote
Strix Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 is anything in this thread: http://www.cadtutor.biz/forum/showthread.php?t=14077 of any help? Quote
macareewall Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Can i convert a pdf to a dwg without special software From memory you can not convert a pdf to a dwg without special software, if you find out please let me know, there are bunch of 3rd party programs that helps you to convert pdf to dwg. http://www.autodwg.com/pdf-to-dwg-converter/ http://www.pdf-to-dwg-converter.com Quote
tzframpton Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 You can do it if it's Vector only. And I've tried it... it SUCKS. not even worth it. Circles become octagons, Text becomes hatches that are broken, no layer control, no scaling, etc. Just better to redraw it. PS: This sure is an old thread. Quote
