My 2008 dwg file will not open in 2009

I keep running into problems when it comes to using files from different AutoCAD editions. My computer at home has AutoCAD 2010 while my school is using AutoCAD 2009. However, I have a few files saved from AutoCAD 2008 and for some odd reason they will not transfer to the 2009 edition (nevertheless 2010, I did not even bother to try). I just need to open it to use a drawing and bring it into my 2009 file. My 2008 is saved as an autocad drawing :dwg:

Anyways I would love some advice. I am very comfortable with AutoCAD except when it comes to transfering files through the different editions. Are they not meant to be compatible? Is there an easy way to do this?

I use 2009 now and had problems with fatal error switching between versions. I got the latest service pack form AutoDesk and it corrected the problem. Now I am not sure if this is the issue you are having since you did not mention anything about a fatal error, But your school shool check to see if they are using the latest service pack anyway. I believe the school will need to resolve that problem since its their software.

Ya, I definitely think I need to bring up these issues with my school since many people use autoCAD from different editions, so I am sure they will need them to all be compatible. Its ironic that they havent fixed this problem earlier. I am definitely suprised by that.

Thank you Buzzard! Once again.. :)

Oh and it didnt say anything about a fatal error, it just opens the file like normal but nothing shows up in autocad....

The command line says this:

Autodesk DWG. This file is a TrustedDWG last saved by an Autodesk application

or Autodesk licensed application.
