Volute

Hi,

This is the shape of a Volute that i would like to model. What steps would i need to perform to create this Volute?

1) How would i create the Pipe section which starts with the large diameter pipe with flange and ends up with the small diameter pipe that finishes by moulding into the large pipe?

2) How would i create the circular shape containing the 12 bolt holes which is situated on the front of the Volute. It is recessed about 5mm into the large pipe on that side and extrudes out where the smaller diameter pipe finished.

I could model the rest of the Volute once i know how to construct the parts from questions 1 & 2..

I have attached a picture of the exact Volute i would like to model.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Tony

Hello,

I'm in the same situation.

I did a solid loft, then I did a cut loft using the same sketches.

This is as far as I've gotten.

Any help, advice?

Find the red End of Part marker in the browser. Pull the EOP up to the top of the browser hidding all features. Save the file.

In Windows Explorer right click on the file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder. Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

I tried uploading a zip file... it was too big and wouldn't work.

This where I'm at... For the volute, I used thin-loft.... the neck was lofted seperately. Then loft cut. Interior is all funky and not smooth.

I'm starting to think that I have to model this casing fully filled in... then start cutting away the interior to my dimensions.

Any suggestions?

In the browser find the red End of Part (EOP) marker.

Drag the red EOP above all features.

Save the file.

Zip the file in a rolled up state.

Attach the file here.

well,

I'm still struggling. I'm having a hard time making the cut water.

My approaches have been:

spiral sweep with a circle for a centerline/guide curve.... then loft the throat to discharge flange.

other approach has been extrude 3" midplane for the volute... then loft the throat to discharge. Then shell outwards 0.5" thickness.

Looks like a low pitch Helix or Spiral coil and Loft would to the trick. Probably need a curve driven pattern of workplanes as well.

Can you please send me that file so I can learn how you modelled that casing? Post #2.
