Ste1978 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I have saved a plan view of my .idw to an autocad .dwg drawing, the drawing opens fine in Autocad but for some reason it will not explode. Is there any way around this? Quote
JD Mather Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I think you need to post this question in the Inventor forum. Here is some information from an Autodesk employee DWG TrueConnect tips Posted: Feb 24, 2010 2:01 PM Reply I wanted to make people aware of some information regarding DWG TrueConnect drawings, aka Inventor DWG files. 1. DWG TrueConnect drawings are a collaboration tool intended to be used like a DWF outside of Inventor. The following operations are supported: - View/Plot - Precise & correct scale measurements of view geometry using DIST or by temporarily creating AutoCAD dimensions. - Turning layers on/off - Copy/Reuse of view geometry by inserting view blocks into another DWG using Design Center - Xref-ing of a single view into another DWG by inserting it into modelspace then Xref-ing the Inventor DWG. (plant layout?) 2. Inventor DWG files are not intended to support general editing within AutoCAD. Save Copy As AutoCAD .dwg should still be used when you want to "publish" a DWG to be used by an AutoCAD user with no restrictions. 3. You can also convert an Inventor DWG to a fully editable modelspace DWG using AutoCAD's "EXPORTLAYOUT" command. (Make sure you have the latest service packs installed though, some fixes were made to support Inventor DWG.) This will produce a 100% visual fidelity, 100% editable modelspace DWG. The downside though is that annotations and dimensions are simply blocks. To preserve the intelligence, use Save Copy As AutoCAD .dwg from Inventor. 4. There is a "backdoor" way to change the Inventor view geometry in-place, you can insert the view block, REFEDIT it, then the changes will show up in the viewport. However, these changes will be reverted if you open the Inventor DWG in Inventor. As long as the DWG is attached to the Inventor model, we need to preserve the associativity of the view geometry at all costs. There is one other issue, if you increase the X or Y extents of the view block, the geometry *may* get clipped when its displayed in the viewport. Its possible but quite tricking to expand the viewport boundary without messing up the view scale (we make the boundary invisible so you can't grip edit), so this trick should be used as a last resort. If anyone has questions or concerns about DWG TrueConnect, or any other unmet needs in the area of DWG interoperability, please respond and I will do my best to respond.
