Copy model

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I created an assembly and would like to make alterations at this point but save a copy of the original model.

I tried the Save as -> Copy model but whenever I change something in the model, it is also changed in the original (saved somewhere else).

HELP

Thanks,

Sigal

How are you saving as? Are you using the drop down "File- Save As" or the command line SAVE? I don't understand what you mean by Save As- Copy?

All you should need to do is to Save As, then rename the drawing. It shouldn't matter whether it's in the same folder or not?

I am pressing "save as" and then toggle on the "create copy" box at the bottom of the "save as" dialog screen (and I rename it, of course).

I tried to save the assembly under a different name but the parts still "belong" to the original and each time I start to edit a part in the renamed new assembly it says that it is related to the original assembly.

Don't know why... I tried creating a simple assembly from 2 simple parts and save it as a copy and when I change the copy, the original parts change as well.

Trick is as GE wrote, "Save As", and provide a different file (.dwg) name.

I often am forced to do this 'cause I make my original drawings "Read Only." :glare:
