bert
Hi All, Is it possible to create a polyline or block of a room perimeter that is linked to something that can extract the square footage within the polyline? What I want to accomplish is a table that has the room names with the square footage of each room. I currently do this manually for each room. Can this be done automatically by LT2009? If so, what are the steps (or is there a tutorial)? Thanks, b
GE13579
I think LIST will give you an area of a polyline, but you'll have to input the number yourself.
chulse
Could FIELDS do this?
skipsophrenic
I'm not sure about exporting the data, but if you go TOOLS>INQIRY>AREA and then select each endpoint of the outline of the room in turn then in the commmand bar it gives both the perimiter and outline (not sure if can export this data out into a spreadsheet or not in LT)
GE13579
Could FIELDS do this? Is FIELDS Map specific? I don't have this command in Mechanical... (well, I just tried at least!)
Geoffers
Could FIELDS do this? yes, i have used it several times... I am not in ACAD at the moment but, if i remember... basically draw a polyline of the area you want, preferably on a layer so you can turn it off, insert a 'field' and relate it to the polyline as 'an object', format the units to your choice. altering the polyline will (i think) be shown in the field output. there will be other members who can elaborate on this, i.e. outputting as a table, can't help with lisp although I have dabbled there... GE13579
Ok so ignore my previous post I misread FIELDS as the command as opposed to FIELD...
bert
Yep, FIELD works...to a degree. It creates a piece of text with a shaded background (fortunately the background doesn't print). I guess I could collect all the pieces of text and place them in a column to create a schedule with room names and associated areas. Should be a better way. JBullseye74
Can you use dynamic block in LT2009? if so i would create a perimeter polyline with enough parameters to you can manipulate it to all the room sizes. Use attributes within the block to input the different room numbers. Link a field to the perimeter polyline using the OBJECT AREA. Once this is set up you can then use attribute extraction to get a list onto a spreadsheet which will list all the room numbers along with he areas. This is of course if LT2009 supports dynamic blocks and attribute extraction. Cheers

bert
@ JBullseye74: Lt 2009 supports Dynamic Blocks but the Attribute Extraction is clunky; it makes you create a special formatted txt file outside of 'LT so it can extract to that. The Help instructions are not very good on this. I get the impression this feature has been severely crippled in 'LT. @Geoffers: I need to see if there is some way to get the Field information incorporated into a Table in LT... bert
@ Geoffers: OK using your idea: basically draw a polyline of the area you want, preferably on a layer so you can turn it off, insert a 'field' and relate it to the polyline as 'an object', format the units to your choice. Then: Create Table Click table cell and insert field Select a previously made field, relate it as an Object, select Contents. And boom! The room sf fields are entered into a table (you have to do this for each room). And if the ployline is altered, all the square footage fields will update if you type Regenall. So for now this works. Thanks everyone.
bert
I found a better way: Create a polyline on the Defpoints layer. Create a table with Room Names and Area headers. Click into the appropriate cell and Create a Field. Relate it to the polyline as 'an object', format the units to your choice. Do this for each room. As the polylines change shape, the fields will update with a Regenall. Thanks again, b
JBullseye74
another quick one.... a quick way of drawing a polyline around the perimeter of the room is using BPLOY. don't know if that helks speed up the process or not.
bert
I'll experiment with it. Thanks, b
