i have an assembly i want to scale down (about 1/4) is that possible?

it's simply because we know we will screw up somewhere along the way when machining it, so we'll work out the bugs on a smaller, cheaper piece of steel

thanks

Open a new File

Use the Derive Command on the Model Tab

Derive the assembly into a single part with maintain each solid as a solid body

Set a Scale factor on the Options Tab

Use Make Components to create a new scaled down assembly automatically and save the new ipts accordingly

i'm using 2009 so i think my options are a little different, i got the "derived assembly" window, it has a "scale factor" box i set as 0.25, do you know what else i need to change in this window?

Opps should have seen you are on 2009.

Stop right there you cannot do it the easy way.

You will have to do this for EVERY part manually if you want separate IPTs from it.

Inventor 2010 and 2011 are 4 steps compared to the 4 step times the number of parts you have in there.

Prof. Mather's, can this scaling be easily done in inventor 2010 as well? tia

Go back and re-read the entire thread - your question has already been answered.

Pay particular attention to Post #4.
