nestly
I put all my related blocks in a single drawing. To get them into other drawings, use design center, or insert the drawing with all your lighting blocks into the other drawing(s) and all the blocks in the lighting drawing will be added to that drawing as well. ReMark
Since you are using AutoCAD 2011 you can create a custom Tool Palette populated with your lighting blocks. Tool Palettes can be exported. I bet you didn't know that.
nestly
If the Tool palette actually stored the tools, they'd be awesome, but since they have to reference the source drawing, they're not as attractive for mobile CADing
ReMark
There is nothing preventing users from transfer folders of blocks between computers. I don't view that as a hindrance to using tool palettes. Your way works just as well too. DrZ3D: Are you going to be sharing these blocks with someone else over a network?
Patrick Hughes
An alternative is to create a directory to contain your blocks, and add the path to AutoCAD's support path.. You can populate the directory by using the WBlock command which will "WriteBlock" to an external drawing file. If you are on a network there would be no need to export to other PCs. BIGAL
We have done like Patrick we have a server blocks directory with sub directories grouping the block types, importantly each dwg is one block only. ie only one copy exists. There is multiple ways of accessing the blocks simply, use insert browse, tool palletes, menus (text), menu's with slide images, in our case a combination of the last two. I would try tool palletes first, ask here help is available for all methods.
