Hello everyone.

I wanted to get some feedback CAD for machining. I know coming from the CAM side, that many things don't need to be drawn for machining purpose.

Any thoughts on this and how you dumb down drawing to be used by CAM system.

Thanks

Al

Depends on the part. Many parts cut from flat stock just need the 2d top view. 2.5d takes a but more work, more detail (surface areas) are added, this is normaly used with router or mill.

No experience with a lathe cnc setup.

Then you have to determine what file system is used by the cam program.

dxf for 2D

stl for 2.5D
