Changing your graphics card will not help with speeding up rendering time. That's a processor and/or RAM issue. Your other problems are probably graphics related, but they could be processor or RAM issues also. Can you post your full computer specs? You may need to upgrade to a more high powered computer.

What's the number of the card? It should be "Radeon HD 3650" or something like that.

Before you spend any money, have you installed both service packs? http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9241178#section2

You might also want to try updating the drivers for your video card.

Does this problem happen in all files or just a few?

Max doesn't like it when objects are far away from X0,Y0,Z0, so always make sure you are working close to the origin, otherwise strange things like this can happen.

Yes, install service pack 1 and then install service pack 2. You can't install service pack 2 unless service pack 1 is already installed.

Then check the ATI website for updated drivers for your card.

3GB of RAM? What OS are you running (Vista, XP, Win7, other)?

Is this a 32-bit or 64-bit system?

Is your software 32-bit or 64-bit?

Personally I think 3GB of RAM is pretty meager unless you are running a 32-bit system which cannot take advantage (recognize) large amounts of RAM (12-32GB).

You got a new computer and it is 32-bit? That was not a good idea given the type of work you want to do with it.

A 32-bit computer basically limits you to no more than 3.5GB of memory.

You never said what kind of files you're working on. If you're just building models and working on simple scenes, the machine you have should be fine. But if you're working on huge scenes with millions of polygons, you might want to think about moving to a 64 bit operating system and increase your RAM. Otherwise you will most likely continue to have these kinds of problems.

No its not actually a new pc

I am actually a 2d cad man ! So at the time this machine was perfect

But now i want 3d

Do u think the graphics card is good enough, or would a Quadro 600 be an ideal purchase

Im not sure where im going with 3d at the moment,

I have just bought some more ram, which should take me to 8gb

But i might start saving for a new PC

Any good makes that specialise with 3d cad pc's?

You cannot install 8GB of RAM on a 32 bit machine. A 32 bit operating system can only access and use up to 3.5GB, so installing anything over 4GB is pointless.

Take a look at my computer details. I had my home computer custom built by XI Computers, and at the time, the cost was about $2,400. I got the same machine for work, about 6 months later, and the cost was down to about $2,200. You could probably get the same machine now for under $2,000.

The Quadro 600 is an adequate card for your intended purposes. The point we have been trying to make is that to address 4GB or more of RAM you need a 64-bit OS which you do not have. You're stuck for the moment.

Depends on your operating system and how much RAM your motherboard can accept.

Here are the upper RAM limits for the different editions of Windows 7:

  • Starter: 8GB
  • Home Basic: 8GB
  • Home Premium: 16GB
  • Professional: 192GB
  • Enterprise: 192GB
  • Ultimate: 192GB

But one thing you need to think about is how much RAM do you actually need? I have 12GB in my machine but I've never even come close to using it all. I could have probably been fine with just 8GB. But if you have money to burn . . . .

So i have done some research and apparantely my process "AMD 620 X4" is 64bit capable,

So does that mean i can put on windows 64bit and put in my extra ram ?

What about your motherboard? If your computer was built as a 32 bit system, it may have a motherboard that can only take 4GB. You need to check on that and see how much RAM your motherboard can accept.

By the way, what happened after you installed the service packs? Are you still having the problem?

Did you look into updating your graphics drivers?

I really don't think moving to a 64 bit OS and adding more RAM is going to solve this problem. 3GB should be fine for simply working in the viewport.

I worked for several years on a 32 bit system with 3GB RAM and had no real problems other than slow render times. So again, unless you're working in extremely large files with millions of polygons, you really don't have to upgrade your system. And since you really don't even know where you're going with 3D right now, I would not recommend spending a lot of money on upgrades. You might find that 3D just isn't your cup of tea and then all those upgrades will have been for nothing.

No i know 3D is my thing, i took a course in London and have fallen in love with it,

Just finding the program very slow when it comes to panning etc

I have upgraded service pack 2

And i had already upgraded my driver for the graphics card

I have looked and my m-board can take 8gb ram
