boxel0
Can someone explain to me what rendering in passes means? And what the benefit is ?
Cad64
Rendering in passes lets you output separate bitmaps of the final image, (diffuse, shadows, specular, reflection, Z Depth, etc.), so they can be composited in Photoshop. This gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of fine tuning your final image in post production because each pass will be on it's own layer that you can tweak and apply effects to individually. You can read about this in your Studio Max "Help" files. Do a search for "Render Elements" and then go to "Rendering Elements Separately".
