kippax
Following a company re-organisation, we need to purchase ACAD for the office and I'm a little confused as to the best version. We only perform very basic tasks involving adding additional layers containing the lighting schemes to the clients pre-prepared building drawings. I believe that AutoCAD LT 2012 will be ample for our needs, but we have been working with the full version for a number of years now and I'm just a little concerned with any features that I've got used to using that I might now lose. I use one LISP routine regularly for counting different blocks (light fittings), is there a work round in LT that will enable me to do this in one way or another. We are often required to work with drawings originally created in non-Autodesk products. Is LT as capable at handling these ? Are there any other things I should be aware of. The other issue is purchasing the product. Looking around on the internet I have seen prices varying from 600Pounds to 1500Pounds all from recognisable sources. That seems a large variation. Is there an explanantion for this ?
ReMark
The loss of the use of lisp might be the biggest factor but since you only use (at least for now) one routine you might be able to create a workaround by using a diesel macro. Re: The drawings that are created in non-AutoDesk products. In what file format are you receiving them? How seats of AutoCAD LT were you expecting to purchase? Re: diesel macros. There are two AutoCAD LT help sites that you might want to check out. Cadding & Coding is the first and LT Unlimited is the second.
kippax
Re: The drawings that are created in non-AutoDesk products. In what file format are you receiving them? Always dwg/dxf, but when they haven't been created in ACAD we often get odd things happening like strangely huge file sizes and quirks in the contruction whinh require exploding before they are able to be worked with. How seats of AutoCAD LT were you expecting to purchase? Re: diesel macros. There are two AutoCAD LT help sites that you might want to check out. Cadding & Coding is the first and LT Unlimited is the second. Just the 1 seat. Cheers for the info on diesel macros. I'll do some investigating. ReMark
I see no reason why LT couldn't handle the files just as the full version did. One question though. Why not just stay with full AutoCAD? You never know what may come along in the future that will make you wish you hadn't downgraded to LT. f700es
Simple download and run the 30 day demo. See if it works for you for a few weeks and then buy if it does. If not, well, try the full product.

Use LT for a month to evaluate whether it's does everything you need.
f700es
Yep, this is why we have the 30 day demo. You really have to test it to see what you need. I'd try try for the full product myself.
