blackeagle1245
When I render my drawings, I get a result. After I plotted it on a sheet or pdf, thats not clearly satisfying for me. Do you use any kind of software to get more proffesional results?.
tzframpton
I rendered this a couple of weeks ago, using only AutoCAD MEP to design and render it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4989089/Images/cadtutor/2011-12-20/05.png What is it you're having trouble with? Can you post any rendering you've done?
Jack_O'neill
These were drawn in Autocad 2010 and rendered in another Autodesk program called Showcase. My version is a couple years old now. Don't know what the latest one costs. Pretty easy to use and ad materials to the library.
blackeagle1245
your picture is amazing. Mine is just seems very simple and not good enough I'm sure I'm missing something. How do you do that?. Which rendering method do you use?. and jack O'neill after you draw in autocad you took the drawing to showcase right?. I'll try that also. example.pdf

tzframpton
Sure, I'll give you all my tips. It's pretty lengthy so I might write up a complete PDF tutorial this weekend or something. I'll set a reminder and get back to this thread this weekend.

tzframpton
Just to keep you busy for now, I wrote this quick tip article years back. This will get you started. I've learned a ton more since this post, although this post still applies for the foundation in which I render things. http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?35688-3D-AutoCAD-Render-Tip-Quick-settings-with-great-results

Alex Moiceanu
Try to use another printer for better results.I use Bullzip printer and it's a better printer than the autodesk built in printers. You can set the resolution from the printer properties and you have a lot of other options that you can set. You can save drawings as .pdf, or .png,or .tiff ,etc. There are lot of other printers you can use and download it for free from the internet. And for a more realistic render, try to change the render preferences, aka _rpref at command line,to high render quality or presentation quality, and just play with the other settings from the palette. So,good luck with the renders and the plotting!
Jack_O'neill
Blackeagle, are you applying any materials to the objects in your drawing? I don't know anything about MEP2011, but the drawing you posted looks very much like what Autocad produces when rendering objects with no materials. With no materials, it creates renderings based on layer and color. If you apply a material, it makes it look like steel or glass or whatever. The pics I posted were done as you said...modeled in Autocad, then I imported those models into Showcase, attached an assortment of materials to the objects and rendered it. In Autocad, the wineglass looks like this in the "conceptual" view style: It's just two solid shapes on two different layers. Once i imported the model into Showcase, I applied a clear glass material to the goblet, and an amber colored glass material to the "liquid". I then adjusted the transparency setting on the amber material so that it would not be completely clear. Tannar will get you headed down the right direction for doing renders in MEP. He's quite good at this stuff. There's not much call in my line of work for rendering, so I do it mostly for my own entertainment. He does stuff like that for a living and knows all the tricks. tzframpton
I didn't copy my files from work to bring home with me to write up a good tutorial. I'll get those files tomorrow morning at work and work something up for next weekend (hopefully). I have wanted to do a great rendering tutorial specific for AutoCAD MEP for awhile now so I will definitely do it, just depends on how much personal time I have to get 'er done. I'm a busy busy man nowadays, especially since my daughter was born a few months ago.

tzframpton
Maybe, it depends. Like I said before, I definitely want to do it, but family life is priority at the moment. I've already transferred my files from work to my home computer, so that's a good sign.
