Alias's or shortcuts won't work in 2012, what can I do to fix this?

Can you post a copy of your acad.pgp file? You will have to change the extension to .txt, or put it in a .zip file in order to upload it. (use the Go Advanced button at the bottom right of the Quick Reply window to post attachments)

SLW210,

Here is my pgp file.

; This PGP file was created with the AutoCAD Alias Editor.
; Last modified 6/19/2012, 1:14 PM
; Use the Alias Editor (ALIASEDIT command) to edit this file.
;
;
; Program Parameters File For AutoCAD 2012
; External Command and Command Alias Definitions
; Copyright (C) 1997-2011 by Autodesk, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
; Each time you open a new or existing drawing, AutoCAD searches
; the support path and reads the first acad.pgp file that it finds.
; -- External Commands --
; While AutoCAD is running, you can invoke other programs or utilities
; such Windows system commands, utilities, and applications.
; You define external commands by specifying a command name to be used
; from the AutoCAD command prompt and an executable command string
; that is passed to the operating system.
; -- Command Aliases --
; The Command Aliases section of this file provides default settings for
; AutoCAD command shortcuts. Note: It is not recommended that you directly
; modify this section of the PGP file., as any changes you make to this section of the
; file will not migrate successfully if you upgrade your AutoCAD to a
; newer version. Instead, make changes to the new
; User Defined Command Aliases
; section towards the end of this file.
; -- User Defined Command Aliases --
; You can abbreviate frequently used AutoCAD commands by defining
; aliases for them in the User Defined Command Aliases section of acad.pgp.
; You can create a command alias for any AutoCAD command,
; device driver command, or external command.
; Recommendation: back up this file before editing it. To ensure that
; any changes you make to PGP settings can successfully be migrated
; when you upgrade to the next version of AutoCAD, it is suggested that
; you make any changes to the default settings in the User Defined Command
; Aliases section at the end of this file.
; External command format:
; <Command name>,[<Shell request>],<Bit flag>,
[*]<Prompt>,
; The bits of the bit flag have the following meanings:
; Bit 1: if set, don't wait for the application to finish
; Bit 2: if set, run the application minimized
; Bit 4: if set, run the application "hidden"
; Bit 8: if set, put the argument string in quotes
;
; Fill the "bit flag" field with the sum of the desired bits.
; Bits 2 and 4 are mutually exclusive; if both are specified, only
; the 2 bit is used. The most useful values are likely to be 0
; (start the application and wait for it to finish), 1 (start the
; application and don't wait), 3 (minimize and don't wait), and 5
; (hide and don't wait). Values of 2 and 4 should normally be avoided,
; as they make AutoCAD unavailable until the application has completed.
;
; Bit 8 allows commands like DEL to work properly with filenames that
; have spaces such as "long filename.dwg". Note that this will interfere
; with passing space delimited lists of file names to these same commands.
; If you prefer multiplefile support to using long file names, turn off
; the "8" bit in those commands.
; Examples of external commands for command windows

; Command alias format:
; <Alias>,*<Full command name>
; The following are guidelines for creating new command aliases.
; 1. An alias should reduce a command by at least two characters.
; Commands with a control key equivalent, status bar button,
; or function key do not require a command alias.
; Examples: Control N, O, P, and S for New, Open, Print, Save.
; 2. Try the first character of the command, then try the first two,
; then the first three.
; 3. Once an alias is defined, add suffixes for related aliases:
; Examples: R for Redraw, RA for Redrawall, L for Line, LT for
; Linetype.
; 4. Use a hyphen to differentiate between command line and dialog
; box commands.
; Example: B for Block, -B for -Block.
;
; Exceptions to the rules include AA for Area, T for Mtext, X for Explode.
; -- Sample aliases for AutoCAD commands --
; These examples include most frequently used commands. NOTE: It is recommended
; that you not make any changes to this section of the PGP file to ensure the
; proper migration of your customizations when you upgrade to the next version of
; AutoCAD. The aliases listed in this section are repeated in the User Custom
; Settings section at the end of this file, which can safely be edited while
; ensuring your changes will successfully migrate.

Yours looks pretty much like mine ..... except for the last line before the custom aliases begin. I don't know what that line does, but it's in my AutoCAD2012 and 2013 PGP files, but not in the 2011 PGP?

nestly,

I added that last line from yours. I made sure that I have changed 'C' to be COPY and I saved my pgp file. I exited autocad and restarted it. C still keeps coming up now as 'CHANGE'. However I must say that I also changed 'P' to be "PLINE" instead of 'PAN' and this worked. Now how about those apples.

That's just weird. At first, you couldn't redefine "C" at all, and then when it finally did accept your modification it started using a completely different command?

Is there a chance you have a Lisp loading that defines "C"?

Lisps have priority over the PGP, so I suppose you could beat your AutoCAD into submission by adding

(defun c:C ()(command "COPY"))

to your acaddoc.lsp file

nestly I will try that right now.

Another thing is that I can't get 'INTERSECTION' to work 90% of the time. Even thougth I know the objects are flat and I have intersection selected in my snap settings. More folks here are having the same issue about intersection.

Hey nestly, it worked. I added what you wrote at the end of my acad2012doc.lsp file, reopened autocad and 'C' is now copy. I will try that same tactic with the 'X' command.

Sorry for some confusion earlier in my postings. Always has 'C' come up as "CHANGE" not 'circle'. Sorry about that.

Please stop doing this: "I exited Autocad and restarted it."

There is absolutely NO need to exit and restart AutoCAD. Do it again and I will personally come to your office and bean you over the head with a Whiffle ball bat!

If you haven't used the Express Tools method of editing your acad.pgp file all you have to do is type the word REINIT at the command line then press enter. When the Re-initialization window comes up on the screen put a checkmark in the box to the left of the letters PGP. Then click the OK button. AutoCAD will reset your acad.pgp file and your changes will take affect immediately.

Got it?

FANTASTIC nestly. I am so happy you found the work-around for me. It works and I will pass along the method to my IT department.

But still having the intersection problem.

Many thank yous to all of you that submitted suggestions of how the get the alias thing fixed for me. What an ordeal but as nestly pointed out earlier in the posts his work-around did the trick.

Thanks everybody for you earnest assistance.

Still, anyone have an answer about the intersection problem I and others here are having with 2012? Your input will be much appreciated.

nestly,

I followed the instructions on the acaddoc.lsp and went back and removed the changes I had done in autocad2012doc.lsp. Restarted autocad and all is well. Thanks very much.

Cool. I still wish we could figure out what is loading that was causing "C" to be the alias for the CHANGE command. Do you know if you're loading any other lisps?
